The article, Tragically, I know the impact losing a child has on your marriage all too well, by Ben Pullen states

“Shortly after my eleven year old son, Silas, died from a terminal brain tumour, I remember a well-meaning friend buying me a pint in the pub and suggesting that I’d be lucky if my marriage survived, because according to a common statistic, 70% of couples split up after the death of their child*. I must have gone white. Here I was trying to put one foot in front of another and stumble forward into a future without my boy and on top of that I was being told I was going to have to fight to stay with the woman I loved.

There is no doubt that my wife, Sarah, and I grieve differently and we would not pretend otherwise. Since our son’s death we have been on a painful journey, and we have navigated our way along different paths. In her book, “A Mighty Boy”, Sarah likens our journey to two fast cars on a Scalextric track: most of the time our course runs parallel but separate and only rarely do the two lanes intersect and then only for brief moments, before we roar away from each other once more.”
