Healthcare IT Security Is Difficult, But Not Impossible

Data breaches threaten healthcare organizations from all angles — from hackers, thieves and forgetful employees — and touch all facets of IT infrastructure.

American Institute Health Care Professionals‘s insight:

Using Healthcare IT Security to Protect Your Patients!

With emerging field there comes a need for security.    The health IT field is no different.   In an age where everything is becoming digital, safeguards need to be taken to protect patient data from hackers.

Healthcare IT security seems like a next to impossible task but like everything in life a well made plan can make is easier.    First you need to realize where your breach could be.   Most of the time it is from a forgetful employee who forgot to log off their computer.    Hacking does not need to involve hi-tech programs or even another computer when the information is already provided.     Smaller practices like doctor’s offices are especially susceptible to hacks like this.   The staff simply lacks the healthcare IT training to know any better.

The best way to prevent this from happening again is having an effective plan in place.   Train your employees to log off from computers when they leave them.    Keep office computers out of view from potential thieves.   Lastly do not leave files with patient information sitting around.   Your patients trust you with their health, they should also be able to trust you with their personal information.
